Self-Consciousness in Photography Practice
23rd June, 2019 Blank·Art Salon Vol.4
Artists often choose self-portraits as the imprint of the process of self-consciousness exploration. For photographer Qian Ruya, inviting strangers to explore intimate relationships is a breakthrough in self-awareness. While as an art historian and independent curator, He Yining questioned the relationship and difference between photography as a record of performance art and as an art piece. Furthermore, she also discussed how the practitioners (regardless of gender) face gender, race, power and other issues.
