Illusion: Contemporary Art and Movie

The blank art salon in the first season of 2020 are started with the series talks “Wander in Boundaries” initiated by the writer btr. The artist, Yang Fudong, and the assistant director in the Shanghai International Film Festival, Fanjing Wen, joined the first talk of the series “Illusion: Contemporary Art and Movie. They were discussing about the relation between art movies and video art and looking forward to find the boundaries among them.

btr
btr is a writer, translator, book reviewer and film critic. He has published several books including Mini Stories (2016) and Petite Mort (2017). He also translated the book The Invention of Solitude (2009), Winter Journal (2016) by Paul Auster and Abbas Kiarostami’s Lessons with Kiarostami (2017). He founded the Wechat Subscription Magazine “Petite Mort” in 2014.

Yang Fudong
Yang Fudong was born in Beijing in 1971. He graduated from the China Academy of Art, Oil Painting Department in Hangzhou. He was one of the finalists shortlisted for the Hugo Boss Prize in 2004. Yang is among the most successful and influential Chinese artists today. Now he works and lives in Shanghai.

Fan Jingwen
Fan Jingwen graduated from MA Cultural Studies in the University of London. She is working as Assistant Director (Festival Programming) in Shanghai International Film Festival. She mainly focuses on the pluralistic creation of contemporary moving images and contributed to the translation of Mark Durden’s Photography Today (2015).
