Henid Status of Art in Women’s Consciousness

Starting from the practice of performance art for 30 years, Xiao Lu, the contemporary artist, and Zhang Nian, the professor of Tongji University, began a dialogue to discuss the meaning of performance art and the relationship between people and art. The current living conditions and behavioral patterns are highly similar to the uncertainty of performance art.

About Guests

Xiao Lu

Xiao Lu is a contemporary artist in China. She was born in 1962 in Hangzhou, China. She was studied in the Subsidiary School of Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and graduated from the Oil Painting Department in Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. She is currently working and living in Beijing.

Zhang Nian

Dr. Zhang Nian is a critic and professor of Chinese in Tongji Univesity. She was born in the 70s in the twentieth century. Her research primarily focuses on feminism ideas, political philosophy and cultural criticism.

About Guests

Xiao Lu

Xiao Lu is a contemporary artist in China. She was born in 1962 in Hangzhou, China. She was studied in the Subsidiary School of Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and graduated from the Oil Painting Department in Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. She is currently working and living in Beijing. Her works were globally exhibited in different international organizations including recent exhibitions Xiao Lu: Impossible Dialogue at the 4A Centre Contemporary Asian Art in Sydney, Australia, Collection Displays: Performer and Participant at TATE Modern in London, UK and Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World at Guggenheim Museums in New York, USA.

Zhang Nian

Dr. Zhang Nian is a critic and professor of Chinese in Tongji Univesity. She was born in the 70s in the twentieth century. Her research primarily focuses on feminism ideas, political philosophy and cultural criticism. She has published books Female Trauma on Ontological Phobia: From Hegel to Psychoanalysis (性别之伤与存在之痛: 从黑格尔到精神分析), Gender politics and state on women’s liberation in China (性别政治与国家: 论中国妇女解放) and almost one hundred critical articles in many important ideological and cultural journals since 2000 in China.
